Amazon Kindle DX Review

Rating: ★★★★½

The Screen Is Beautiful…

With the extra inches, it handles more words per page, and deliver books, poems as intended by the Author.  The bigger screen also makes it easy to read Manga and Comics.  Which is really cool.  And the New York Times never looked so good!

Another change that will improve your reading experience is the darkening of the text.  Now, this might seem like an insignificant change but it’s not.

In previous editions of the Kindle, the text was much lighter.  Making it harder to read in certain lighting and for some, hard to read for long periods of time.  But thats all changed now.

The darker text contrasts the screen beautifully, and is much easier on your eyes.  It also makes it possible to read the very light colored Kindle in both lighter and darker enviroments.

Amazon has added a native PDF reader to the Kindle DX.  This allows you to read PDF documents much easier.

Screen rotation allows you to read your kindle either from a landscape or a portrait style (vertical or horizontal).  Unintentionally this acts as a mild zoom, enhancing the size of graphics and text.  Which helps when reading PDFs.  Plus Automatic Screen Rotation is just cool. Also when you flip the Kindle DX, it’s Navigation stick adjusts with the screen.

Amazon has also increased the Kindle’s storage capacity, allowing you to know store up to 3,500 books on Kindle DX.  But this brings me to one of my biggest issues with the Kindle DX…no allowance for a memoray upgrade through external memory sticks or cards.

To me this is so short sighted by Amazon, especially when your encouraging people to use PDFs with the Kindle DX.  Some PDFs are massive, and will drain your space in no time.

So How Does the Kindle DX Rate?

Rating: ★★★★½

I rate it 4  out of 5 stars and strongly recommend it for any avid reader or traveller.  I really love the device.  For me the extra screen space, the extra storage, the weeklong batter life, and the global wireless service that allows you to down load content from almost anywhere free is worth the extra investment.

The biggest problem I had with the Kindle DX, was the price.  I would have preferred a $350 price tag instead of a $489 price tag.  For some the $230 cheaper Regular Kindle will be the way to go…and I can understand. A $230 difference is big.  But once again for me it was worth it.

Why should you buy the Kindle DX?
